#1 Browns - MLB Curry Donaldson, 6-1 245lbs
The first overall pick in the draft always comes with great scrutiny. Since 1936, only 12 first overall picks have went on to make the Hall of Fame. Typically LB's don't go number 1 in the draft. The last time a NFL team picked a LB with the first pick was in 1984 when the Falcons picked Aundray Bruce, who was considered a bust and only started 42 games. Will Donaldson follow in those footsteps? I think not. Donaldson is a man among men. With WR speed and great coverage skills, this guy can do it all including rushing the passer. He's the type of player you build a defense around. No bust here. The Browns front 7 should be tough.
#2 Buccaneers - SS Burt Austin, 6'3 223lbs
Austin certainly has all the attributes to be a good starting safety, but was he the best safety in the draft? Austin may have been picked a little high for me. Just not sure the talent level is worthy of a 2nd overall pick. But at 6'3, this guy moves fast which should make him difficult to beat deep. This guy would start for almost any team, but the Buccs did not have a glaring need at SS, having two young guys already there.
#3 Vikings - CB DeJoshua Pearson, 6'1 204lbs
This guy has the smarts, the coverage skills, and size to be a great CB in this league. Pearson was the best coverage corner available in the draft. Only thing missing here is the speed. Pearson does not have the speed to be a "shutdown corner." However good corner come at a premium, and there was none better in the draft than Pearson.
#4 Cardinals - ROLB Kelcy Graham 6'2 251lbs
Theres nothing not to like about this guy, with the exception of having a girls name. Graham has all the tools to be a premier pass rusher in the game and was without a doubt the best OLB in the draft. This guy is so good he could have went number 1 or 2 overall. This guy did have some minor injury problems in college, but as long as he stays on the field, watch out!
#5 Jaguars - QB P.J. Clausen, 6'3 222lbs
It's pretty bad when a team has to pick a QB in the top ten of the first round two years in a row. Has a team ever done that before? It appears like the Jags have zero confidence in Mr. Blain Gabbert, and can ya blame him? Clausen's size and athletic ability reminds me of one Cam Newton, but does he have the accuracy to be a starting QB? Jags better hope so or they will be picking another QB next year.
#6 Seahawks - RT Connor Ellis, 6'8 310lbs
This dude is 6'8 and has all the makeup of a pro bowl starting RT. The Seahawks were in desperate need of a RT to help open some holes for Lynch. It's a safe pick, but a good one.
#7 Redskins - QB B.J. Bates, 6'1 225lbs
Highest projected QB in the draft. Redskins were in desperate need for a QB, and this guy is certainly an upgrade to Les Grossman (Rex), although thats not saying much. Personally he doesnt have the deep throw accuracy for me.
#8 Broncos - FS Travonnie Young, 6'0 201lbs
Quite possibly, the most skillful player in the entire draft and would have been my selection if I had the first pick. Safeties like this one don't come around often. Exceptional speed for a safety, and covers skills of a good corner. When you have a chance to draft an Ed Reed type of player, you don't pass it up. Bravo Broncos. With an already good defense, and Peyton Manning added to the offense, look out for Denver.
#9 Colts - QB Carey Hayes, 6'1 224lbs
Poor Colts. No Manning, no Andrew Luck. Their only QB on their roster was Curtis Painter LOL. The Colts had no choice but to take the best QB available. Hayes will be their starting QB over Painter, but is not the answer in replacing Peyton Manning.
#10 da Bears - TE Jared Pierro, 6'5 250lbs
The Bears finally get themselves a TE. Pierro is an Antonio Gates clone. This guy has TE size, but WR speed and will be very difficult to cover downfield. He gets off the line quickly and is hard to bump. The guy is a beast. Good luck defenses. With the Brandon Marshall signing and the addition of this guy, the Bears passing game should be very good.
#11 Cowboys - LE Antwan Campbell, 6'2 259lbs
Born and raised in Texas, this guy was destined to be a Cowboy. Campbell was the highest projected DE in the draft, so the Boys were pretty excited to see him fall down to number 11 in the draft. The Cowboys had Campbell number 2 on their boards. Campbell has blazing speed for a DE, and has great pass rushing skills. The kid has the potential and the ability to be a premier DE in the league.
#12 Jets - RT Shawn Carillon, 6'4 332lbs
What don't the Jets need? The is pretty solid from top to bottom. Shawn is an excellent blocker, and might be the best overall offensive lineman in the draft. Only problem is he is a tad bit injury prone.
#13 Rams - LOLB DeVaunte Holiday, 6'1 233lbs
The Rams made alot of offseason moves, and found themselves in salary cap hell coming into the draft. Not sure if they will be able to sign all of their rookies. But this will for sure get signed. Not the greatest pass rusher, but Holiday excellent cover skills for a LB and has the smarts to read defenses. Holiday lacks speed, but the Rams needed a OLB bad. So its a good fit.
#14 Panthers - RG Joel Snyder, 6'5 316lbs
On my board, Synder was number 1 among the OLine players. Great pick at number 14 for the Panthers as they needed a Guard.
#15 Chargers - SS Tyre Seymoure, 6'1 212lbs
Tyre has the physical ability. He's fast, he has good cover skills and he can knock bitches out with his hard hitting ability. But he lacks the smarts and the ability to read a defense. So I don't think he will lead the league in INT's any time soon, but overall good pick for the Chargers at 15 as they needed a SS.
#16 Bengals - HB Hassan McDonald, 6'0 219lbs
Believe it or not, but McDonald was the only running back selected in the first round. Mr. Ron McDonald may not give out happy meals, but will certainly give you TD's. He's got all the attributes you look for in a RB. Not only does he have blazing speed, but he also has the size to run people over. Move over Benson and Law Firm.
#17 Falcons - MLB Willie Farmer, 5'11 250lbs
This LB doesnt wow you with anything, but he is a smart player. He reacts to the ball quickly and should rack up alot of tackles. Solid player.
#18 Bills - FS Carrington Peake, 6'0 203lbs
Last time I checked the Bills had a pretty good young FS in Byrd, which begs the question... wtf are they picking a FS in the first round? And I answer. Byrd is a highly rated FS, but can't cover a frog man to man. Peake can. Exceptional coverage skills for a Safety, and good speed makes Peake a hell of a pick at 18. Only downside is he lacks the smarts and the ability to read defense you look for in a safety, and he isnt a great tackler. But still good pick at 18, I guess?
#19 Giants - LT Jabbar Washington, 6'6 325lbs
The Giants are pretty jacked, they got pass rushers coming out their ass. Good overall defense, good QB, good RB, good WR core. The Oline is the Giants weakness, so Washington will be a great fit for the Giants in attempting to protect Eli from D Ware eating his shit (wont help).
#20 Raiders - RG Dillon Saunders, 6'6 304lbs
The Raiders already had a great running game. McFadden will be tough to stop. Saunders is a very solid RG worthy of a 1st round selection. His underance isnt great, but he's a athletic guy who can do many things on the outside.
#21 Chiefs - WR Schon Dial, 5'10 178lbs
First WR off the board doesnt come till 21 which is a bit surprising. This guy is not a prototypical number 1 WR. He is small, cant get off the bump, and is a little injury prone. What Dial does have is speed. Keep a safety back when you face this guy. The Chiefs have a solid team, and already had a pretty good WR core. So not sure this this picks makes all that much sense. But I guess they could pass up that kind of speed.
#22 Patriots – LE Montrey Benjamin, 6’2 315lbs
Benjamin will be a good fit in NE as a 3-4 LE. The Pats defense has really struggled over the years, and their pass rush has been one of the worst in the league. So this was a step in the right direction in correcting that. Not a 10 sack a season guy, but should be the the staple on the dline in the years to come as Wilfork and Carter continue to get older.
#23 Eagles – LOLB Jacorie Minton, 6’2 235lbs
The Eagles are a strong team. Maybe one of the most talented teams in the league. Their only weak spot is at LB and desperately needed to get one in the draft. Not sure Minton was the best player available at number 23, but it had to be done. He’s not all that athletic, but he should get the job done and was the best OLB that was still left.
#24 49ers – WR Shalon Brandon, 6’2 231lbs
Well the 49ers get getting better and better. Brandon might be the best WR in the draft. He has all the tools to be a number 1 WR in the league. Good size, speed, and release. He can go up and get the ball. He’s even a good blocking WR. Only downside is he is extremely injury prone, and this might be the reason why he fell to 24. He Crabtree and Vernon Davis should make for a great WR Core.
#25 Lions - MLB Jamel Price, 6'1 236lbs
The Lions continue to build on that defense. Now that the Dline is set with Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, the Lions went to add a MLB, which they needed. Price is one of the faster MLB in the draft so he should be able to cover alot of ground. Only downside is he's injury prone, but good pick for the Lions.
#26 Ravens - C Brice Crane, 6'2 296lbs
Center was not a deep position in the draft this year. Crane was the only C worth considering in the first round. Although he probably won't start right away, Crane is the center of the future for the Ravens, Andre Gurode's time is almost up.
#27 Dolphins - LG Tyren Knapp, 6'6 353lbs
Knapp is one of the biggest players in the draft sitting at 353 pounds. He is a love hate guy. Love his size and strength. He's as strong as they get. Hate is work ethic. His endurance is not good.
#28 Packers - DT Mustafa Beck, 6'3 339lbs
This big guy officially gets my vote for the weirdest name in the draft lol. Theres nothing weird about his ability tho. Beck has the size and strength to plug up the hole in that GB defense. Good value pick here at 28.
#29 Texans - DT Benton Goodwin, 6'2 280lbs
The Texans desperately needed to find a replace to Super Mario. Not sure this guy is the answer, but at pick 29 what do you expect. Goodwin is small for a DT, but has decent pass rushing ability. But Mario Williams presence will be missed.
#30 Titans - SS Marcus Ameen, 6'2 207lbs
Ameen has the build and speed you look for in a safety. He is one of the hardest hitters coming out of college. He will certainly cause a fumble or two and knock some bitches out. But just don't count on too much more than that, especially if he can't stay on the field as he is extremely injury prone.
#31 Steelers - LG Trayion Young, 6'3 326lbs
The Steelers Oline has sucked for years. Poor Rapelisberger is always getting put on his ass. The Steelers used this pick wisely of Young. Although he is considered a better run blocker than pass, but anything is an upgrade for the Steelers.
#32 Saints - CB Sean Gordon, 6'2 197lbs
The last pick in the first round goes to the speedy corner Gordon. The Saints corner situation is not good and lacked speed, so it makes sense to pick Gordon here, as he has the speed to run with almost any WR out there. Only problem is he couldnt tackle a blind fat lady running down the field. He will miss alot of tackles. I guess the Saints can just go ahead and exclude him in their future bounty programs.
